Elvis Presley, most commonly known as Elvis, or the King of Rock and Roll, is one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. Born in 1935 in Mississippi, Elvis caused controversy with his energetic performances by performing his songs, which were categorized as sexually provocative in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In the 60s, Elvis focused more on his acting career and then relaunched himself as a singer at the end of the decade. The King of Rock and Roll died of a heart attack in Memphis, Tennessee, on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42, resulting from various health problems he struggled with during the last few years of his life.
“He was baptized the King of Rock & Roll for a reason. Elvis is perhaps the most significant musical icon in history. He was the pretty boy of rock, the one who had no limits. His innate talent took him through the clouds between Hollywood and Las Vegas. The King did not stop until he was drafted into the military. Then an exhausting career would follow. At that time, let’s not forget that being a rock star involved years of touring, many of them by bus, with records of more than 200 performances a year. He is undoubtedly, for me, the largest male iconographic figure in the world. I don’t think it’ll eclipse Marilyn, but the King’s legacy continues, and there are hundreds of books, special editions, fan clubs, imitators, and hundreds of more things that make Elvis the King.
He is, without a doubt, one of my favorite serigraphs of this series. I used a part of a song by Charly García, which is an anthem of Argentine Rock, where he refers to the “guy who broke guitars when nobody had a miserable amplifier!” –Cherman
