“Janis Joplin is a female icon whose voice was able to break through stereotypes in regard to the use of female beauty. Janis breaks people’s hearts, taking them through a passage of musical history. She is the queen of hard rock, representing freedom, hippie culture, and ‘blues.’ She continues to be the first and top female symbol of rock and is part of the ‘The 27 Club’, upon dying at her early 27 years of age.” –Cherman
